Programme: CNR – Dipartimento Scienze del Sistema Terra e Tecnologie per l’Ambiente (DSSTTA)
Project title: Valutazione sinottica delle pressioni antropiche sui principali Hot Spot del Mediterraneo
Acronym: SNAPSHOT
Duration: 01/01/2020 – 31/12/2023
Total Budget: € 350.000
ISMAR budget: € 120.000
Web site: http://snapshot.cnr.it/
Summary:
On March 9, 2020, in order to contain the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus contagion, for about two and a half months, Italy was forced into the grip of an unprecedented confinement (lockdown), with the effect of slowing down and/or suspending many industrial and social activities, including tourism. The choice of lockdown has initiated an experiment in reducing the anthropogenic impact on the environment, including that on the marine-coastal system, especially in areas where anthropogenic pressure is most significant.
In this context, SNAPSHOT aims to recognize and diagnose the effects of lockdown, at different time scales and to develop investigative activities aimed at understanding the effects of lockdown on the marine ecosystem. In detail, the objectives of SNAPSHOT are to verify and characterize: 1) the effect, if any, on the marine and coastal environment of the reduction of anthropogenic activities during lockdown and the resumption of productive activities, in the context of the spatio-temporal variability of natural phenomena; 2) to contribute to the observations of some descriptors of MSFD and WFD; 3) to create and consolidate
