Beakon S1-GB
The beakon S1-GB constitutes one of 2 measurement stations operated by the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council along the coast of Romagna, off the Po Delta.
Installed in a body of water with a depth of about 21 m (GPS 44.7384 N – 12.4526 E), it was winged by CNR-ISMAR in March 2004.
The beakon is located at a key monitoring point for the study of interactions between the Upper Adriatic and the Po River, experiencing a wide range of oceanographic conditions.
The station consists of a lighthouse, an aerial platform placed at 6.5 m above sea level, a steel tube structure, a submerged float, and an elastic joint for mooring to the sinker.
The system is equipped with NRT logging and transmission devices, 12 and 24 VDC DC power systems, weather station, and double winch (connected to the submerged mooring) that houses oceanographic instrumentation at different depth levels (including CTD probes, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, turbidity, and CDOM sensors, ADCP). Additional measurements are routinely collected at the site with periodic sampling regarding biology, chemistry, and oceanography.
The beakon contributes to the European research infrastructure LTER, as part of the Upper Adriatic site.
