Key words: situ observation, ocean’s health, climate system
Summary:
The Mediterranean Sea ecosystem provides fundamental resources and services that support large and complex human socio-economic systems, that can be severely impacted by both natural and anthropogenic stressors. The management, restoration and preservation of the Mediterranean Sea Health requires improved monitoring tools to advance our understanding of the marine ecosystem functioning. These novel tools and products will foster innovative approaches to provide science-based solutions for sustainable development, such as those enabled through future Digital Twins of the Ocean. Investigating the complex interactions between the physical/biological/biogeochemical processes that shape the Mediterranean ecosystem represents the key interdisciplinary research objective that will be addressed by 4DMED project. 4DMED consortium will also provide recommendations for a Science Agenda and 5-year science roadmap and actively interact with the major international initiatives focused Mediterranean Sea Health. CNR will be coordinating the entire consortium that includes CLS, CNRS, Univ. of Aix-Marseille, AWI, Mercator Ocean International and INNUERE consulting.
